Jeroen Bron will present results from his doctoral thesis 'Student voice in curriculum development: Explorations of curriculum negotiations in secondary education classrooms.'

The main question explored in this seminar is: 'What is the value and contribution of involving students in curriculum development in relation to developing 1 democratic qualities and improving curriculum relevance?'

Bron has integrated several theoretical discourses into a curriculum negotiation method. An empirical study was conducted to examine the implications of using this method in the classroom, consisting of six case studies in five secondary schools. The
curriculum negotiation  method was found to increase student participation, highlighting the relevance of engaging student voices in the curriculum.
