The Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS) offers fully funded PhD scholarships for a variety of projects.

Obtaining a PhD

The PhD students will be appointed for a three or four-year period, with a formal evaluation at the end of the first year or after one year and a half. In this period the graduates will work on their individual project, leading to a doctoral dissertation.

The program (fully taught in English) will start September 1st, 2017.


Excellent candidates who recently gradua­ted, or will graduate shortly, in Sociology are invited to apply. Graduates in Psychology, Educational Sciences, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or related disciplines are also encouraged to apply.

Conditions of employment

ICS offers a temporary full-time appointment for one or one and a half year. After a positive evaluation the appointment will be extended to four years maximum. The generous scholarship amounts to € 2191,- before taxes in the first year of the appointment, increasing to appr. € 2801,- before taxes in the fourth year. The salary is supplemented with an annual holiday payment of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8,3% per year. Other secondary conditions include a.o. a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions.

Tuition fees do not apply.
