Debate on the footprint of the Dutch housing market and the socio-ecological profile of housing cooperatives
The Netherlands wants to solve the housing crisis by building at least 100,000 new dwellings per year. These ambitions, however, come with major environmental costs. At the same time, the Netherlands has already exceeded its remaining carbon budgets to limit global warming. This points to an urgent tension between increasing housing supply and environmental sustainability. How can we provide affordable housing within planetary boundaries?

Environmental footprint of housing consumption in the Netherlands
This is a public presentation of a transdisciplinary research project on the environmental footprint of housing consumption in the Netherlands. It assesses social inequalities in housing related carbon emissions.
Pathways to socially and ecologically sustainable living
The study also looks at inspiring alternatives of housing that could be socially just and environmentally sustainable. We start from the existing housing coops, IEWAN in Nijmegen and Ecodorp Boekel. These suggest pathways to socially and ecologically sustainable living.
